Recluse and Ethiopia
So, I was seriously debating just working around the house this weekend, doing productive things like reorganizing my filing cabinet (with label-maker in hand), tossing 8-year-old tax documents, etc. But a friend wanted to go into Pitttsburgh for dinner and a movie.
Though the house and filing cabinet are still messy, I'm glad I came. We tried a new Ethiopian restaurant (AWESOME. Tasteless jokes about famine aside, it really is one of my favorite ethnic cuisines) and saw Ides of March.
I really REALLY enjoyed that movie. Clooney was, with little more than a shift in his smirk, both inspiring and intensely creepy. Gossling's fake accent grated on occasion (as it always does), but I think he did an overall good job as a portrait of disillusionment in the political process. The supporting cast was all-star. The 'pretty intern', aka Vampire Queen of Louisianna, was every stereotype ever invented for young blondes and that was probably my biggeset quip with the movie; there was not a single female character with more than on dimension.
That said, the part of me that pours over the NYT op-ed page and watches the Sunday morning talk-show circus thought it was two hours very well-spent. And the best line in the movie (very spoilery. highlight to read):
>"You can start a war, you can raise taxes or bankrupt the country, but you can not fuck the interns."<
