not something you see every day
Aug. 5th, 2010 07:40 amI let Henry out in the back yard yesterday (I have a back yard now. Did I mention that?) and he promptly trees a stray cat I've never seen around before.
The first thing I notice about this cat, as she runs thirty feet up the tree, is that she's a calico and looks awfully pregnant.
I'm debating how to get her down so I can spay her before she has the kittens (yes, I do realize this is late term abortion, but there are SO many stray cats I have to put down on a weekly basis for the humane society...) when something falls out of the tree.
She's queening right over my head.
I pick up the fallen kitten and rub it off. It's breathing and quite vigorous. She has one more up in the tree. I put them in a box with dryer-warmed towels and leave them out with some cat food for her, then leave the area so she'll come down to get the cache.
By next morning she's long gone, leaving the two flying kittens in the box. Luckily we have a technician who's really good at nursing newborn cats, so she takes them on as her project until they can eat solid food and find good homes.
The end.

In other news, work is crazy. As you might have surmised, I'm doing a lot more cat and dog medicine than I had expected (or trained for). I don't know how I feel about that yet. (not so good when I get called out to 17 emergencies over the weekend- most of which could have been avoided if human beings in back woods towns were less stupid and had fewer guns.)
I've almost finished moving into the new place. I highly suggest moving in before starting an 80-hour-week job.
There is no place to buy fresh fish within about an hour's drive of my house. *do not like being land locked*
I have my own vet truck (well, the clinic owns it)
I just got back from a week of diving in the Galapagos. Friggin AWESOME. Pictures are here if you're interested. Saw my first whale shark, blue footed boobie mating dance, and schools of hammerheads. Yes. Awesome.
Hope all is well!
