"If they start to feel it, just cut faster."

Words to live by. Especially when you have a scalpel.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

*laughs*

But seriously, I've been there. Feeling it, that is. Not a pleasant sensation. My epidural didn't take as well as it should have and they had to quickly put me under general anesthesia. *shudders*

eee! Yeah, the cow in question in this particular incident was sedate enough that we could lay her on her side (though not completely under) and had lidocaine locally. We're actually quite conscientious about what our patients feel (mostly because of their tendency to bite, kick or scratch when they don't like what we're doing) which is was made this so funny.

Owch on the poor epidural though...

Yeah, that's comforting. O_O

heh. Actually we're very careful that our patients don't feel it (because they'll usually try to kill us if they do) which is what made this so funny.

Hee. We're actually very good about blocking/sedating/anesthetizing (when it's safe to do so) them so they don't feel much -- mostly because they have a tendency to kick our heads off if they do. But it is a balancing act, since anesthesia isn't always the safest thing, and so we use a lot of local blocks. (This time the abscess had to be opened beyond the block, which is why the quote was so funny.)

*snorts* The fact that this is not surprising advice is probably a sign of something, right?

Favorite similar principle quote: "If it can still bite you, it's not under far enough!"

Yes. (Also, I think you're the only person who isn't horrified by the idea -- which is also probably a sign of something. *g*)

But you can't forget that "Light is Life."
