krislaughsIt was a long week, and a few things strike me this Saturday night
1. Spending every day where I do makes me hyper-aware of the things that happen to people's pets. But I never really believe it'll happen to mine. I've noticed a very subtle change in Henry's gait on our walks over the last week or two, so Wednesday I brought him in to school. He's a 'normal' dog on a lameness study (looking at cranial cruciate, or ACL, rupture) and I thought the clinician running it might want to take a peek at him. As a favor, she did. And she almost immediately diagnosed him with cervical intervertebral disc disease. Suffice to say that given his signs, her expertise and her exam, I was fairly well convinced.
Anyway, this is a condition that can start (as his) with very subtle changes and may progress until the disc material impinges on the spinal cord and causes a whole bunch of very serious neurologic deficits (including paralysis) or else it may cause chronic pain itermittently though his life. I called my former roomate, who is currently working on her neurology residency (the neuro people do a lot of these), and I'm following her advice. There are surgeries, but they have more success in sudden onset small dog cases than chronic large dogs, and it's tough to operate where his is. So I'm managing him conservatively with strict cage and house rest for six weeks with pain meds as needed.
I've moved my mattress (aka makeshift bedroom) into the piano room downstairs so he doesn't have to go up and down all the time (and the only way he's allowed to sleep on the bed now is if the bed's on the floor). I've set up a crate, which he is only allowed out of under supervision. No more walks. He's only allowed outside on leash to pee three times a day. I'm teaching him not to jump (as much as I love his 'Tigger' impersonations when he's excited). No more collars.
It's going to be very different around here. I think we both might go stir crazy. I just hope this works.
2. Then in the More Good News category, I took my car in for inspection the same day and was informed that it would require $1200 dollars worth of work to get it back. I just... Thanks world. Time to take out another student loan, even as the financial system around us crumbled.
3. On the plus side, Lazarus Rising was AWESOME BEYOND MY WILDEST IMAGINATION. It did raise a few questions though.

- Was Ruby already possessing the girl in Sam's room when Dean arrived? Or did she take the reins later on? - I'm inclined to think the latter, which I hope means she'll be jumping into more bodies this season, because the first girl didn't have quite the sass of Katie Cassidy.
- Did Sam visit the gravesite when he rolled into town?
- Is there any way someone can make "Castiel" into an anagram for "Lucifer"? Heh. Just wondering
- Is Kripke psychic? Or does he just read the fansites?
4. And finally some SGA observations.
- Was John jealous in that first scene? Or was he trying to protect Rodney because he knew Ronan wanted the girl?
- FINALLY Ronan admits he wants the girl. ZOMG, have I been waiting for that as they build the whole Keller/Rodney thing out of thin air. I can't WAIT to see how this changes the team dynamic. And I kind of want them both to be a little competetively foolish until she finds out Keric (is that how you spell it?) is alive and the two go off to raise their adorable little adopted girl together. What? it could happen.
All things considered, I think it's time to have a big glass of wine, settle down to boards review, and thank goodness a new week starts on Monday.

I have a theory that this chick is a different demon and not Ruby and is lying to Sam about being Ruby. :\ She's too nice. I mean, Jared played MEG with great precision, and I don't think this flip in attitude is a slip on the writer's part. I hope.
Or this actress is just kinda bad at continuity...
But the reason that I say that is because there are some things in that scene with Kristy that seems like a set up. Sam seemed taken aback when "Kristy" pretended to not know Dean and Bobby, Sam forgot "Kristy"'s cover name, and the pizza Kristy was waiting for never name (at least, I don't think it did). Y/N?

That scene totally did seem like a setup. There was something really purposefully off about it-- especially given what we learn later. She seemed so genuinely clueless when se met them at the door and when Sam belittled her, that I bought her character then moreso than I did when she was Ruby. You think the pizza thing was all a story? I am supercurious already.
I also want to know hat Lilith has been up to all summer. As I see it, we have three players now; Lilith, Sam, and Castiel which... it's gonna be greath when it goes down.
