Gorgeous!...and you did it all with pastels?
I'm envious; I have real trouble handling that medium.

Beautiful work, beautiful shading...and Ron's hand around Hermione's back is EXCELLENT!

Aww. Thank you! Yeah, I quite enjoy working in pastel, I get better coverage than the pencils, although not quite so fine detail (I got some chalk pastel pencils to play with for that). Honestly, I think watercolour is the most difficult medium I've tried to work in, and yours are all beautiful. so there :)

I knew I'd find the big version somewhere. I couldn't seem to follow the post at fringeart, but I saw this on the fic. Very nice use of pastels. I really love how you brought the color out of the blacness like this! Your trees are also beautiful. I can't imagine how long it took to detail the leaves. Very nice!

Wow! I'm so impressed that you looked at all. I meant to have this linked to the story, but the best laid plans...

I'm so glad you like it, though. I drew this at a time when art was not flowing for me otherwise, and it's about the most effort I've put into a background (which doesn't say much for my backgrounds, but still...)

I'm a huge fan of natural media. I keep seeing it (the media, not the art) get bashed in favor of CG images. CGI can be lovely, but I like to see the skill with a pencil or paint or something. I think it takes a different sort of talent, when you don't have an undo button or layers to make your image pop. It's just a person and a paper or canvas.

Wow, didn't mean to go all introspective on ya there!

Really? Actually bashed? That's unfortunate. I've spent a lot of time working with colour in photoshop when I have a line drawing but can't get my hands on pastels or whatnot, but I find that I can never get the lines just the way I want them with a mouse. Computer art has its place, but it's no replacement for working by hand.

No worries. I love discussions like this, actually, and in art, everyone is entitled to an oppinion.

Thank you! I've never really taken the time to work up a background like this before.

Yes! You used the blue one. It's even more beautiful than in the smaller version! You got all the deep love and friendship that go through Ron and Hermione in canon there. And the surroundings! The trees are great.

Hehee. I did go with the blue one. The light was more true to the original. Thank you so much!!!

Although I feel like I've been drawing Ron so much recently. I need to make myself some R/S pronto.

So beautiful! I absolutely adore the deep blue background, and the dreamlike, hazy-ness of the trees.
